.54 caliber, 8 1/2″ barrel with captivated ramrod. Lock plate marked “U.S. / H. ASTON & CO.” and dated “1852” at the rear. The barrel is also dated “1852” at the breech. Brass mounts with blued trigger. Half stock bearing two U.S. inspector’s cartouches on the left flat. Various inspector’s stamps appear on the appropriate parts. In fine condition showing an even brown patina overall with smooth metal surfaces. The wood showing handling marks from normal issue and use but free of repairs. Overall it appears to have been issued but cared for.
