Walnut forend and buttstock ending with a steel buttplate marked “U.S.” on the tang and an excellent “ESA” cartouche. All parts finished bright with the exception of the receiver. In super condition with the receiver retaining the muted casehardened finish typical of Springfield. The remaining metal parts having good polished surfaces. Very nice wood with good edges and only minor handling marks. Mint bore. Mechanically perfect. Mfg. from 1871-1872 with total production around 10,000.
